Drawn lines represent more than the contours of things…

✍🏻Depending on the intensity, direction, and thickness of the hatching in my drawing (top right), the shadow and light of the face are revealed. How is this possible?

👀 Because we see blurred, except in the center of the gaze! So my drawing is mostly seen as the blurred effect in the lower left.

🧠 What does our brain catch? If it knows how to detect each hatch like a classic image processing software (top left), it retains the main modelling of the face with the help of the blur (bottom right)!

💡 Thus, the lines of the face take a double meaning for the viewer (and admirer of my work ;-) by freeing itself from the hatchings. And represent not only the contours, but also the depth of what is drawn.

My drawing was inspired by @alphonsodunn
